    • A "Super" WordPress Theme for Affiliate Marketers | 7 Comments

      WSA-Theme

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money blogging, but with all the different monetization models and all the different theme out there today it’s more difficult than ever to find what you need. That’s why when developing the Super Affiliate WordPress Theme, I had only one group of people in mind - the blogger cum affiliate marketer.

The Super Affiliate WordPress Theme is more flexible and ideal for affiliate marketers who get traffic from more than one source, especially via Google AdWords or other PPC (Pay Per Click) ads.

If you’re getting free search engine traffic or social bookmarking traffic (from StumbleUpon for example) you can be more relaxed as to where that traffic ends up. In a typical blog layout, a single visitor might get to the content page, but before getting to the end of the content there are so many other links, sidebars, ads and other distractions that they can click on. This means that the ability to tunnel traffic to perform a single action (subscribe, buy, opt-in) is severely limited.

With the Super Affiliate WordPress Theme, there are two custom page templates you can use besides the default template, which are:

      • The “Exit Pages” - The are the main pages where you would pre-sell a visitor to an affiliate product, and then put your affiliate link. These pages have an alternate sidebar that you can use to put in reviews, testimonials or just related affiliate links. I call this the “Money Page”
      • The “Landing Pages” - The are the traffic-funneling pages, and work better than using your normal blog layout. Every visitor that reaches this page has few other distractions that to perform the main objective of the page itself (see below). In fact this page has no sidebars at all, and an alternative header navigation that you can edit easily.

These are better solutions to funnel your blog traffic, as they remove other distractions from your visitors, and make every advertising dollar count. A few examples where you an use the custom page templates effectively:

      • Building blog subscribers - Advertise in AdWords or in other blogs using a 125 pixel banner, but drive all your traffic to a single page that asks the reader to subscribe to your blog via Feedburner email subscription.
      • Product sales pages - Create a sales page for your product, and put in testimonials on the optional second sidebar which is only visible on the Exit Pages, or you can use the single column Landing Page template
      • Opt-in before affiliate link - If you’re promoting a product via AdWords, you may want to ask for the optin first, preferably using Aweber, and only giving the affiliate link after the optin.
      • Opt-in before sale page - Same as the above, but after the optin you send them to your own sale page for your own product.

Overall, the biggest advantage of the Super Affiliate WordPress Theme is the ability to channel / funnel traffic better than a regular blog template. More strategies are covered in my affiliate marketing for bloggers course.

    • Coupons Can Save You Tons Of Money | Leave a Comment

Did you ever hear about online coupons? If you haven’t, then this post is for you. I got used so much to buy stuff with coupons that I thought it would benefit some of our Easy WordPress readers here as well.

      coupons

As a business owner I have no problem with paying for the tools I need. After all, I do run a business and that means there are certain costs I can’t do without.

But who is to say that we always have to pay full price if we can save a dollar here and there. I’m sure you agree that a couple of dollars saved every now and then will add up at the end of the year. They could pay for a great software, or even for a brand new computer over time.

Either way, there are so many now that offer coupons and yet many bloggers still don’t know this. For your convenience I have listed some common sites which accept coupons below that are helpful for bloggers.

      GoDaddy Coupons

GoDaddy: I think it is safe to say that GoDaddy is the world’s most respected domain name registrar. They also offer hosting/domain packages but to be honest don’t waste your time with that. They suck. But their domain name service is next to none and I recommend to use GoDaddy for any domain name you can.

Note: .com.au domain names can’t be bought through GoDaddy. They need to be purchased through an Australian registrar and cost a lot more too.

A normal .com domain name with GoDaddy is $9.99/year but with coupons you can get them as cheap as $6.95/year. All you need to do to find active coupons is enter GoDaddy+coupons into Google.

The results will be many fold and you will have to sort through them, but generally the most promising deals are on the first results page.

      Hostgator Coupons

Hostgator is my hosting site and I love them. I have never ever had an issue with them and their live support really rocks. Plus they offer a sweet deal with $7.95/month hosting accounts. If you elect to pay for upfront for a longer period, you will save even more money. Right now, you will save 20% of the total bill with their spring sale.

This particular sale expires 1st May 2008 but they always have some deals going on.

To find them visit the Hostgator site directly, or else do a Google search for Hostgator+coupons.

      TDNAM Coupons

TDNAM is GoDaddy’s aftermarket domain name service and allows you to buy pre-owned domains. If you are a serious niche marketer, then this can quickly amount to some serious expense (which of course you will make back ten fold). But why not buy these domains with a reduced price tag too? You can save up to 20% on your bill which can mean $20 for every $100 your spend.

To find active coupons again visit Google and do a search for tdnam+coupons.

If you don’t see it, search for it

Basically these three examples are only a few of the many available bargains online. In the future, when you are inclined to buy something make sure to check first whether there is a coupon available for it.

A dead giveaway for this is if there is an empty field at checkout that says “enter your coupon code here”.

Hopefully this will help some of you save some money in the future.

    • Widgets Take a Big Leap Backwards in WordPress 2.5 | 12 Comments

WordPress 2.5 did give us some useful improvements, however I feel that the widgets became much harder to use, and I think most people would agree with me.

This screen shows the way widgets used to . All you need to do is select the widget and move it across any available sidebars to arrange them, or simple drop it back into the placeholder at the bottom to remove the widget from your blog. Pretty simple to understand, fun to use.

      wp-sidebar-old

But with WordPress 2.5 this becomes a 3-step process which is not only confusing, it’s also much harder and no fun at all.

      wp-sidebar-new

Gone is the “drag and drop” function and honestly I don’t see the reason to change what is not broken. Now you have to first (1) select the sidebar you want to edit (2) add the available widgets to the sidebar and only then can you (3) move and rearrange the widgets.

Pop Quiz: How do you move a widget from one sidebar to another?

    • 5 Common Beliefs About Blogging | Leave a Comment

Blogging has changed the way we look at the Internet, I’m sure of that. Not only do blogs provide extreme leverage for businesses, but they also allow us to earn money from them if we manage to break into this ground.

      blogging beliefs

Despite the highs and lows of , many people still harper beliefs that might stop them from getting started in the first place. To make sure you don’t fall prey to these misconceptions, read on.

      Blogging is passe

Whoever told you this probably doesn’t even have a blog. Much like in MLM when people don’t understand the concept of the business idea they warn you off without having a clue on what it actually takes.

The same applies to blogging. People say “but blogging has been around forever, surely they don’t have the same effects anymore like some years ago.” Just look at the article about corporate blogging and how it can affect businesses.

Blogging isn’t reduced to Internet marketing. Far from it actually. In recent years it has become a popular past time for lawyers, dentists, politicians, gardeners, chefs, actors, musicians, corporations and just about anybody you can think of to blog.

Heck, even grandmothers blog these day. How cool is that!

So don’t be mistaken in thinking that it is too late to start blogging now. The revolution has merely started.

All the good ideas are already used

Don’t be fooled into thinking that you cannot come up with a great idea that will be an instant winner. Bloggers often make the same mistake and just follow the crowd. I know I did. At the time I thought it was cool to have a blog and write about Internet marketing, affiliate marketing and the like, even though I had no idea.

I had to learn the hard way and my blogging has slowly shaped itself to what I blog about today.

If you are only just starting out, great! You have a huge advantage - use it.

Think how you can be different than the pack and you will do well.

You need to be a tech geek to blog

Hell no you don’t. You learn as you go. I did. Noobies look at experienced bloggers and think they can’t do it. They are intimidated by the huge gap that lies between them and the established blogger. But I’ll let you in on a little secret.

There will always be bloggers who are more or less experienced than you, so please don’t make the mistake of thinking you can’t do it.

      It’s too hard

To be honest, if you think this then it is. At least for you. Blogging isn’t hard at all. As a matter of fact it is extreme fun and very rewarding. I get huge satisfaction when people write to me because they have been touched by one of my blog posts.

      It’s easy to make money

Actually it isn’t. Blogging doesn’t always need to be assimilated with anyway. Your blog can be your voice of reason, your teaching tool or even your personal diary. Either way, your intentions are not to make money but to help others.

That’s perfectly fine. I rather be a blogger who does something good for others than trying to scam them off with crappy adds that I’m not qualified to show in the first place.

The longer you blog, the more experienced you will become. Some people are experts the moment they start because they blog in a very small pond with plenty of interest in the market place.

If you are hoping to make money with your blog I strongly suggest you do it in an industry away from the “meta blogging industry”.

    • Change The Admin Color Scheme of Your WordPress 2.5 | 2 Comments

Don’t like the new look of WordPress and wished it looked like the earlier versions? In WordPress 2.5x you can easily change between the new and old (similar but not the same) color schemes.

      wp-change-theme

To do this, simply go to your dashboard, click on “Users” and on your own user profile. Then, you can choose between the “Classic” or “Fresh” admin color schemes.

Here’s the default look, and the alternate look you can switch to. You can get the “old” predominantly blue color but it’s just the colors; you cannot get the same layout as you would in WordPress 2.3 or earlier versions.

      wp-theme-1 wp-theme-2

I’m sure in time individual developers will release different color schemes for WordPress, so you’ll be able to customize it further.
