7 Steps To Spice Up Your Blog

in Blogging Tips

If you think your blog looks sexy, than think again. Often our own minds are clouded by self obsessed judgment and despite our own belief that our blog looks good enough, we fail to see the obvious.

We should do a reality check every so often to see whether there are any points on which we can improve our blogs on. Sometimes it helps to get an outsider to have a look at your blog and give you valuable feedback.

Here is a list of 7 steps you can take right now to spice up your blog right away:

1. Get a professionally designed header or logo. Places like the Digital Point Forum are loaded with eager design professionals who can do this for as little as a measly $25.

2. Get rid of the extra clutter. Use a stream lining process and be strict by stripping away all that is not needed. Too many ads, flashy banners and color can deter rather than attract. Keep your main color spectrum to 3 colors.

3. Change your theme. Sometimes this is all it needs. The problem is that most people use a mass produced theme, rather than going solo. Money is most often what is holding bloggers back.

You don’t need to spend $800 for your first theme creation. Find someone who is willing to do it for you cost effectively until you do have the funds to go big. You might even want to exchange work.

4. Work colors to your advantage; if you have a business blog, you might agree with me that pink and purple aren’t such a wise choice if you are trying to portray a professional look. Unless of course you are psychic.

5. Use images in your posts. I can’t believe how many bloggers are missing out on this very important design aspect. Humans seem to soak up information way better via images. By using appropriate images that convey and strengthen our message we can make a post even stronger.

6. Use wider themes. In case you haven’t noticed. Wide is king right now and since real estate also applies to blogs, why not use the space you have to your own advantage.

7. Introduce Plugin’s that display top commenter’s, latest comments, etc. It will attract more frequent bloggers to your blog since people love to see their name displayed.

Check out the following sites for Plugin’s:

Using these 7 steps to spice up your blog will help you to make your blog more attractive to a wider readership.

Let me know, how you go and whether you need more information.

Great advice. I sometimes wonder if the images in my blog have any value (the ones that don’t really illustrate anything practical), but I know I miss seeing them when other people don’t use any.

*whispers… you have a typo… ‘pink and purple’ :)

I agree with you about purple, but personally I’m quite fond of “oink”! ;)

Seriously … you make some very good points, and I’m going to be revisiting my header image for a start.

Mani: you are welcome, nice to see you here taking time out from your busy schedule. :-)

Amit: thank you, I recommend you do this since it will help to brand yourself more efficiently. And it doesn’t have to cost a fortune anyway.
