blogrolled

Just when you though the act of blogrolling is dead, a new service like BlogRolled.com appears and pumps life back into it. In fact, this service allows your to make money from your blogrolls.

Essentially, what you’re doing is selling your blogrolls to advertisers, which makes it similar in theory to Text Link Ads or any other text links brokering service.

Here’s how it works:

As an advertiser, it’s an easy process. We have an inventory of publishing sites available to you which you can search, sort through, and find publishers related to your product or service. Once you have found a listing you like, enter the details for your site and then checkout. Within a few business days of making the purchase, the selected publisher will place your ad live on their site.

As a publisher, it’s just as easy. Once an advertiser makes a purchase from your listing, you will be notified of the sale. Once you’ve received the notification, you will be asked to place the ad on your site into your blogroll. Done. That’s it!

When you sign-up, you need to add a code like this to your blog:

Then, you’ll start getting advertisers links showing up automatically, and at the end of the month you get paid via Paypal. So how much can you make?

I submitted this blog, and it looks like the price for a blogroll here is $140.

It seems at the moment, the pricing is determined by

  1. Alexa rankings
  2. Google PageRank and
  3. RSS subscribers count.

Before you apply, make sure you have your Feedburner stats showing, as they say “RSS rank may only be known if you have your a Feedburner image on your site.”

I’m seething with jealousy as I had a similar idea, but not enough resources to get it done.

Now lets get into the question someone will definitely ask:

Won’t Google penalize my website for selling text links?

Although BlogRolled.com says NO, I believe it’s no different than from selling a text link, so do it carefully if you’re worried that Google will come after you, kidnap your kids and set your home on fire.

If links are using the “No Follow” tags or encrypted, then as ad advertiser I don’t get the “Google Juice” it would not be worth buying the blogrolls anyway.

Interesting, but I’d imagine this comes under the same category as “Paid for links” (in Google’s opinion) doesn’t it?

2 Seree June 18, 2008 at 1:48 pm

Wow!

This look like a very good service for blogger.

I’ve to try it now.

Anyway, thanks you for sharing this resource!

Cheers!

7 Gobala Krishnan June 18, 2008 at 1:59 pm

Actually this one is about YOU making money. If only you bothered to read first.

8 Epiphany June 18, 2008 at 2:15 pm

Thanks Gobala! :-) This one just might fly under the radar for a bit since the links will go under “blogroll” instead of “sponsored links” or a similar “paid link” flag. I guess we’ll see.

well selling links on your blogroll is a new concept and using another thing to sort these is a bit…hmmm, personally i like the idea of monetizing the blogroll but i rather use something OIO-plugin to deal with all add issues etc

Sounds Good to me! :D

If selling ads from a service like text-link-ads.com is something you like, definitely this one will complement.

I think lots of bloggers have a happy smile on their face after hearing this news from Blogrolled.

I have taken a look at it and I’m not at all impressed with it. The site was done in a hurry leaving lots of loose ends about its money making service.

It is just another link brokering site anyway and you know how much Google hates sites selling and buying links. Sure, you can make money by selling links for a while but you will lose everything once Google slaps you in the face. :-)

looks good! Enough money to buy an island :)

just kidding :)

15 jamesquak June 18, 2008 at 3:24 pm

This service sounds quite new to me. I think is very hard for the little blogger like me really make money from Blogrolled.com because I don’t think my blog was so popular to others to visit.

“Although BlogRolled.com says NO, I believe it’s no different than from selling a text link, so do it carefully if you’re worried that Google will come after you, kidnap your kids and set your home on fire.” the taste of the pudding is in the eating, for anyone who wants to play, good on you, you’re the brave lot.

17 sagbee June 18, 2008 at 4:02 pm

thats seem like interesting idea, ( duhh i havent got that idea… ) however Google wont like to see casino and adult links to every other personal blogs… hope blogrolled will be take care of “Relevance links” only

18 Alfonso June 18, 2008 at 4:58 pm

Thanks Gobala and I’m going join now!

19 John Martel June 18, 2008 at 7:08 pm

Thanks for the heads up, this looks like an interesting service. (Sure beats being Rick Rolled – LOL).

I have my doubts though as far as the paid links and Google goes. I really don’t think it’s such a big deal having a link, even a paid one… but if the links are pulled right from BlogRolled.com and that fact is obvious, then I see a potential problem. If they just pulled a file down to the users server and the links then loaded from each site, it’s a useful and powerful service in my opinion.

20 Ben June 18, 2008 at 10:07 pm

That’s interesting, will give it a try :)

21 Monika Mundell June 19, 2008 at 12:26 am

@ Gobala: This spells trouble for sure with the Google gods. I reckon early birds might just get away with it for now, but in the end, Google will go after them too, just like with TLA.

I certainly keep my hands off. Justifying my PR isn’t what I have in mind after all the hard work to get it in the first place.

22 xaer8 June 19, 2008 at 12:29 am

Are we gonna be banned by google for this? Hahaha.. i’d like to try anyway. Thanks for the info.

23 Aperd1 June 19, 2008 at 2:14 am

Erm, neat but does it pay as google? Anyone had tested it before?

Why other’s if google is the advert king….

24 Ruzie June 19, 2008 at 2:44 am

This sounds great, Mr. Gobala! But for a newbie still struggling with my way around, I’ll just keep this in mind for now.

As a faithful follower to all your guides, I’m sure I’ll get there in no time!

Thank you for the heads up!

25 mossavi June 19, 2008 at 4:27 am

Will explore. Thanks.

26 Chicken Say June 19, 2008 at 4:36 am

there r too many of them out there…quite competitive nowadays…

27 Mohd Nor Jamil June 19, 2008 at 6:34 am

Its a great news. Thanks for sharing. I will indeed try it.

28 Joan June 19, 2008 at 8:29 am

Amazing what people come up with. Like someone said in an earlier post, they might be profitable in the short term but Google will catch onto them eventually. Better to stay with tried and tested methods me thinks!

29 Internet Marketing Blog June 19, 2008 at 10:44 am

Hmm.. very interesting. Thanks… but won’t this leave footprints and alert Google or the search engines?

30 Kay Kastum June 19, 2008 at 10:46 am

My PR has gone down the drain from 3 anyway… this is cool. I signed up last night and already got approved today… but nowhere close to yours though… $140.00! Groovy!

31 The concept behind Blogging June 19, 2008 at 11:07 am

I see too many drawbacks but I would like to know how many people do well in this. It is too new to determine how this will affect websites and the effect on rankings.

33 Tony June 19, 2008 at 4:38 pm

This looks quite risky. If one of the criteria for rating a blog is Google PR then what happens if Google indeed penalize bloggers for engaging in this link sale. The blogger will loose both ways. No more PageRank from Google, and Advertisers won’t advertise anymore. I guess I will watch to see Google’s reaction first before taking the leap.

Thanks for sharing anyway. Cheers.

Think this will pay more than Google then may bee its worth a shot. Hopefully some day there will be something better than Google.

35 Marmie June 20, 2008 at 12:46 am

This seems to be a good one. An additional income source for bloggers. I have no blog set up yet so this will be on my to do list.

36 Steve June 26, 2008 at 1:58 pm

I actually am pretty good friends with the SEO consultant who started Blogrolled.com. I know they have a lot invested in it to protect their Publishers, so I hope it goes well for them.

37 aronil July 3, 2008 at 4:40 pm

I’ve seen this around a few times.. but it didn’t hold my interest too much until just.. hmm i may give it a shot and see how it works.

38 Reccemaster August 7, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Hmm. Good idea; I went and signed up immediately and found that my Blog was only worth $5.00. Its only been up about 3 weeks and am still learning how to promote it. Any ideas how alexa and google rankings can be built up?

39 sapimoto August 13, 2008 at 7:04 am

It’s a real interesting program, but I don’t have a PR and my Alexa Rank is to high at now…
