One of things that attracted me to Wordpress was it’s flexibility and power. Although Wordpress was initially developed as a blog platform, today you can use Wordpress even as the systems for your membership site.
Using certain plugins like WPBoard or other plugins, you can divide you blog content into:
- Public Content – Visible to everyone
- Members Content – Visible only to paid, logged-in members
Although not as advanced as dedicated membership site software like www.Amemberpro.net or www.EasyMembersPro.com it does the job of providing simple member sign-up and login access, as well as payment collection and subscription (usually via Paypal).
The only problem is that it can get quite messy, especially since the time will come when you need to open up some PHP file and start editing code.
Matt Ng release a video tutorial guide called “Easy Wordpress Membership Sites” to guide you along the way, if you’re not too keep about trial-and-error and having to pick up some programming knowledge first before you can even get started.
This product is no longer available. Please refer to this new post instead for creating membership sites with WordPress.

Hi Gobala,
You probably know by now that wpboard is unavailable, and Matt Ng has withdrawn the tutorial accordingly. Problem is I already had it and am part way into my plans for a paid membership site using WP, so….. do you know any other cheap/free plugins that will do the job?
Thanks in advance.
Blatant plug and a little late I know but John you might find Your Members might be right what you are after its a Wordpress Membership plugin but it has two major improvements over the majority of the competition 1) it actually works 2) It is being actively developed. This combined with some unique features might make it worth checking out for you.
People burned by gotix/paybox/wp-board plugin can contact me (sales@venture-skills.co.uk) directly for a massive discount of Your Members we hate seeing people screwed and these guys managed it big time
To quickly create Wordpress membership site or convert existing site to membership portal – try MemberWing: .
It’s free, supports 4 levels of memberships and build with SEO in mind to help your content to rank organically on search engines.

Hi Gobala,
I would like to get in touch with you regarding a new Membership Script for WordPress that I have just launched.
I would like to send you a free copy, and if you like it, I’m hoping you will promote it as an affiliate.
Appreciate your reply.
Thanks,
Ravi

Here’s another one for consideration:

Since it was built for WordPress, it works very smooth and installs just like a regular plugin.
I’m certainly a little biased (since we built it) but if you are looking to turn WordPress into a membership site then it’s definitely something you’ll want to take a look at.
Take care.
