Comment Spam is a night-mare of a blog. Sometimes these creepy comments spoil the prestige of a blog. There are a lot of spam filters from which most well known is Akismet but many times Akismet is also not able to kill these spam comments on a blog.

Defensio

To track and kill those smart spams, a new spam killer has arrived, it is Defensio. Defensio is now a new more smarter spam fighter Wordpress plugin which not only catches spam on the basis on some blacklisted keywords but also on there nature and style.

Pros:

  • It catches the real spam, not the innocent comments.
  • It has an very easy to use management system.
  • You can have your own filters added in Defensio, like for the stuff you think can be a spam comment or trackback.
  • Defensio gives you a total statistics of the spam and the measures.
  • Defensio also provides a RSS feed for your spam comment list which makes you really easy to track them.
  • For developers, Defensio also has an easy API which makes a lot easy to use Defensio in your work systems.
  • Defensio can also be used on simple and regular webpages other than Wordpress.

Cons:

  • Not compatible with old stable version of Wordpress.
  • Sometimes clashes with your own in-blog linkings.

As to the tests, Defensio has been proved really more functional and advanced that Akismet and also more easy to use also.

So far I have found the askimet filter to get the job done ok and maybe I wouldn’t mind the comment spam so much if it was on target but it always seems to be offensive stuff – drugs or sex orientated – and that really freaks me out.

I’ll take a closer look at defensio so thanks for the update.

Kevin
