Do Blog Groupies Rule the Internet?
Lately I have seen a disturbing trend with bloggers. Especially around the make money industry there seem to be some certain bloggers that can’t get enough by sucking up to all the celebrity bloggers in the hopes of getting noticed. It is the blogger groupie movement.
A comment from Markk alerted me to the fact when I was writing about “minding your own business“. I realized that I’m not alone with this thought and wonder whether it is our natural pull toward celebrity and fame that makes us behave like idiots, or whether we lost track of what really matters.
So What Exactly is a Blog Groupie:
Wikipedia says this about groupies: “A groupie is a person who, while he/she may be a fan at some level, seeks intimacy (most often physical, sometimes emotional) with a famous person.”
Since there isn’t really a valid definition of blog groupies to be found, we can assume that blog groupies are those who hang onto every word of the most famous bloggers, jostling for space to be seen on the comments section (need to be in the top 10 to make it worthwhile) and take every opportunity to quote or paraphrase whatever they say.
Whether it is true or not.
The blog groupie movement is for real, just look around you. They are to be found on every top bloggers website and often they are the same persons.
Why Do I Care:
I care because I can’t stand blog groupies. I’m totally over them. What bugs me most is the fact that they make it so obvious.
It’s like hanging onto Paris Hilton’s arms screaming take me, take me…
I also frequent certain top bloggers. Not because of the groupie thing, but because they give me value in what they teach. In fact, there is only two top blogs I frequent pretty much every day and those are Maki’s Dosh Dosh and
Yaro Starak’s Entrepreneurs Journey.
These guys helped me to evolve to what I am and will be, because they talk to my heart and they manage to say humble, great sports and normal. Many other top bloggers don’t even exist as far as I’m concerned and I get more value from smaller “no name” bloggers than from those guys.
What is really sad, is when these bloggers don’t reply to their commenter’s. As if to say, you are not worth my 5 seconds it takes to type a comment, even though you made the effort and spent your time reading that particular blog. And here we are playing groupies.
The idiocy.
Just Because They Are Famous Doesn’t Mean They Are Good:
What is it with humans and stardom? Do we admire these guys because we hope that some of their fame will rub off on us?
Or else is it simply the “thing to do”?
I blogged about my blogging heroes on my own blog a little while ago. And while I made clear that I don’t do idolizing, I gave kuddo’s to the bloggers who inspire me on a daily basis.
These guys/and ladies are simply great honest bloggers who strive to write good content and help others to avoid mistakes. Just like myself. Maybe that’s why I feel drawn to them.
Lets Stop The Groupie Thing Shall We:
If I visit a famous blogger and feel inclined to leave a comment, I don’t do it with the intention of waiting for their latest update only to be first to comment. I read my feeds on various times of the day. Sometimes this means I’m first (rarely though) and most times it means I’m wherever.
Lets stop worrying about idolizing famous bloggers, just because they are famous. They are simply people like you and me who have taken their fare share of bashing, defeat and failure to make it big eventually.
You can too!
Instead of howling to the moon we should focus on quality, and networking with the people we respect.

I like Maki and his blog too, though I don’t think I’ve ever left a comment there. He comes across as very genuine, with a lot of integrity.
Things could be a lot worse with the groupies - at least they’ve not started throwing knickers at John Chow yet like Tom Jones fans used to do
Lucy Lastic: Hehe…that would be something. Good job we can’t throw virtual underwear.
Good post. I’m glad some others hate the … what you call groupie I call kissa$$!
People need a spine to keep them vertical and prevent them from kissing.
Cheers.
Great post! I certainly agree with you. I joined Yaro Storak’s Blog Mastermind program. He is helpful and very smart…
