Create N Place uses a mix of XHTML, CSS, PHP, and AJAX to accomplish this.

Nearly all of the controls available on the admin area's write page are available for use on the front page of your blog. This includes password protecting post, creating excerpts, controlling comment and ping status, and more. Everything is setup to have the same feel as the admin write page, so that it's easy to use.
