Default To set up Permalinks in Wordpress

I try to customize Permalinks in Wordpress.When I click at second option for cummon option,it said that i should update my.htaccess.What its mean?

This means that your .htaccess file is not "writable" by WordPress (which means that WordPress can't make changes to your .htaccess file automatically). You will have to use an FTP program to download, edit, and then re-upload the .htaccess file to your server in order for permalinks to work. One program that you can use to connect to your web server and download files is called FileZilla.
