  • Marketing on MySpace - Marketing Tips in “MySpace Cash Machine”

    October 25, 2006 | By Gobala Krishnan |

Have you already started marketing your business on MySpace?

    No? Me neither…

I always wondered what the buzz about MySpace.com was all about. I mean, it’s butt-ugly compared to Friendster, and the blogs are crap compared to Blogger or Wordpress.

So what is it about this ugly site that is the 4th most popular site on the Intenret?

I do have a profile there, which I created due to the constant pressure from my friends, but I dismissed it as just another “me-too” type of social networking site…

I’ve seen too many of these… Friendster, LinkedIn, OpenBC, Ryze, etc etc… the list goes on.

The earlier this year, there was a lot of buz how certain smart entrepreneurs were making a killing on MySpace selling their own products, or marketing affiliate programs.

So I had a look at MySpace again, and I still could not figure it out. How were these people doing it, if the buzz was true in the first place.

I finally figured it out after reading Matthew Sherbone’s guide called “MySpace Cash Machine” which you can get here:

    www.MySpaceMarketingTactics.com

Basically, in MySpace you do this:

    1. Create a profile on a niche topic
    2. Add as many friends as you can
    3. Set-up your MySpace blog on your topic
    4. Link to your online store on a different domain
    5. Use affiliate links within your blog

Heck, some people are even selling advertising space on their MySpace profiles. Imagine someone paying you monthly cash just to put one small link on your profile page.

The real discovery for me after reading the book is that I realized the whole MySpace thing is now a complete industry:

    1. You can hire others to build a profile for you
    2. You can have automated software add friends for you
    3. Inter-linking between profiles and blogs
    4. Your MySpace profile can be sold to others (for a lot)
    5. You can get so big, that large corporations want to sponsor you

I sat down and thought to myself..

    Damn I missed it completely

It’s not easy to discover a potential like this, unless you spend hours
trying to figure it out. I would prefer to take a short cut and get to the information that really matters.

MySpace Cash MachineMatt’s MySpace Cash Machine ebook is packed with good (if not great) information on how to use MySpace.com to market your online or offline business.

Dave C., there isn’t GREAT secrets abou myspace that will make us rich from day to night.
Myspace is a great source of traffic, and for use that traffic you just need to pull your imagination. And that, no one will tell.

Dave C, I guess it boils down to what you’re using the web for. If you’re just using it in a non-monetary way, a lot of things, even sending out an email promoting your products, can be seen as “marginalizing” the web.

But for those who use the web to make a part time / full time income, it’s just called “marketing”.

Bu the web has many purposes, and I choose to explore the money-making potential of it.

A lot of people are missing out on the true profitability of myspace marketing. Spamming users and getting lots of friends isn’t where the money is.

The money is in the viral marketing culture plate that is sitting there waiting to be tapped. Viral widgets as an example have launched companies into virtual stardom via Myspace practically overnight. Nabbr, Youtube, Slide, etc.

You need to create something free such as Friendkit.com does and then let the users spread it. Viral marketing needs an initial push, not a sustaining babysitting.
