  • Sphinning Madness

image With the recent popularity and rise of the Sphinn social network we have seen many bloggers adopting it as a means of getting book marked. The sites isn’t that old yet but despite this, they have managed to attract a decent size new users and readership. When I first came across Sphinn sometime last month I kept it in mind for later. Now I wish that I had joined right there and then as it seems to be getting more and more popular for Internet marketers alike.

Unlike other big social networks such as Digg, Sphinn’s sole purpose is to feature news from Internet marketing related blogs and sites. This means that the content featured on the Sphinn site is a lot more relevant to our niche.

I actually don’t like Digg at all as they are not only very hard to break into to get featured on the first page, but they also aren’t very much relevant in terms of topics when it comes to IM.

This makes it a lot harder for upcoming bloggers to get featured and I truly believe that if a blogger posts some great information regardless of their blog size or popularity, they ought to be given a chance at getting featured on the front page of a social networking site such as Sphinn, Digg, etc.

With Sphinn this is very much possible right now, despite it’s growth and because it is industry related it means that others from the industry are actually reading the content.

And I don’t see why a blogger can’t be featured on the front page of one of these social networking sites, if he writes a particular great post. Unfortunately the bigger social networks have made this very difficult for our industry as often the big boys will get a lot more diggs, pluggs and whatever else just because they ARE big. It’s kind of like the proverbial online fan club. Often we are just fascinated by celebrity and because some blogger is famous we think we need to hang onto his every word.

In my eyes this is down right stupid as we need to value good content regardless of whether it comes from a famous blogger or somebody with no name at all.

So my philosophy is to help the smaller bloggers getting noticed by recognizing their stories as one of importance and give them a helping hand by Sphinning their stories.

    What is yours?

    Monika
