Squidoo - Ideal Platform For Affiliate Marketing?
By now Squidoo has truly made its mark on the Internet as one way to drive traffic to our other websites and also to market our affiliate products with ease. With their recent changes in their approach to spam lenses it has become a lot harder to rank well with a new Squidoo lens.
Opinions about Squidoo differ and just about every blogger who is familiar with Squidoo has their own ideas about Squidoo in conjunction with affiliate marketing and whether it works or not.
I came to find that it can work very well, provided you are prepared to spend some time to update your lenses regularly.
So what do we need to do to be able to market our affiliate products with Squidoo effectively? Is there a particular way that works really well, or are there several ways that allow us to sell stuff? For starters, with Squidoo the same laws are apparent than with the rest of of our websites or blogs. Content - content - content is what matters first. I cannot stress this enough. If you are not prepared to build a lens that contains decent content that gets a frequent upgrade every now and then, then you might as well not bother with Squidoo.
Unless of course you really don’t care about its rank or position. Some lens masters are perfectly happy writing about their hobbies and interests without monetary gains. But for the rest of us we have some work to do.
Before you even think about setting up your lens you will need to do some keyword research for your niche. You can do this in the free word tracker keyword tool. Free Keyword Tool
By using this free tool you can search for some keywords in your affiliate niche. For example, if your affiliate product is to do with dogs, then that’s the keyword you are going to target for your research. What you want to aim for is to find a long tail. Long tails have a much better chance at ranking higher and therefore attracting more targeted visitors which will result in more sales.
Once you found the perfect long tail or preferably 3 of them in your niche its time to go back to Squidoo and start building your lenses. You want to populate your lenses with lots of related and valuable content. Maybe write up a review about some related products and then incorporate your affiliate link. Or else do a comparison between some similar products.
When you set up your lens, also add at least 3 modules as Squidoo favors those over the rest. It would also help to incorporate a visitor feedback module so others can comment.
In the end, the success of your Squidoo lens really depends on your keyword research and what you make of it. The hardest part would be to find lenses that haven’t been taken yet in your niche. But then, if you see it as an opportunity rather than a negative I’m sure you’ll come up with some killer lenses.
In my humble eyes, it is very much possible to use Squidoo for affiliate marketing and doing it well enough to make sales. If you put a bit of initial elbow grease into it and then keep updating your lens you should be well on your way to rank good in search engines and make affiliate sales.
If you are not sure about the steps explained, you are always welcome to ask some questions in the comment section.

Can we work with squidoo having our own blog at the same time or do we have to blog on squidoo itself. Can you clear this doubt?
Hi,
In order to make money with affiliate products you are probably better off using Squidoo lenses (working directly within Squidoo). This works especially well with niche marketing.
However, if you do have an existing blog, you can give it a valuable back link from Squidoo due to their high page rank by building a lens that points to your blog. (Needs to be relevant of course).
In the end, you can do both it is really up to your own preferences.
Hope this helps, thanks for clearing this up.
