stumbletrafficbookStumbleUpon.com is a great way to get traffic to your site, and previously I’ve already covered some StumbleUpon traffic tips in my interview with Daniel Scoco.

Now Matthew Sherborne has launched his “Stumble Traffic” guide that further explores this topic. According to Matthew getting traffic from SU depends on a few things:

  1. The page you submit. Is it interesting, compelling, and appealing to the eye. Try adding a relevant image near the top of the page to get attention. top of the page
  2. One of the ways to make sure your StumbleUpon submissions get the most traction is to properly set up your Stumble profile. Adding a cool looking picture will give the impression that you’re not brand new to the site.
  3. Add relevant friends. You want to add friends who share your interests and who are interested in the topic of the website you’ll be promoting. By adding friends who share your interests they will be more likely to thumb up your site submissions, giving them more traction and exposure.
  4. Make sure the friends you add are active. If the person hasn’t been using the site very often then chances
are they aren’t getting your submissions. Only add the people who will be around to see your site.
  5. Don’t submit only your site. That’s right you can get penalized for submitting only your own pages. Make sure you are using a ration of 10-1. In other words submit one of your pages for every 10 from some one else.

Some interesting points from Matthew.

Though the points provided are the facts, I don’t think anyone is able to decipher how StumbleUpon traffic really works. You may get a loads of traffic today but not tomorrow.

Just my 2 cents worth!

I’ve found that some days are much better than others on generating traffic AND the time of the submission.

The closer I am to the 9-11am time frame the more traffic in general.

If my article happens to tie in with something that was just covered on TV, traffic from SU and other social sites jumps.

Getting StumbleUpon traffic is not difficult … getting them to take action is the hard bit … most hit the page and stumble again … even when they thumb it up they don’t take any other action …

Any ideas?
