  • Using Articles to Get Traffic to Your Blog

    December 4, 2006 | By Gobala Krishnan |

When it comes to getting traffic to your blog, enough is never enough. In fact the more traffic you get, you directly and indirectly make more money.

There are tons of ways to get more traffic to your blogs, but one of the most effective is to write and publish articles related to your market.

The trick to writing articles is to write them constantly, which really sounds easier than it is. If you’re not outsourcing the articles, you need to write and publish at least one new articles every two weeks.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to look back at some of the posts you’ve written, and turn these into full-fledged articles. Generally, this would mean anywhere between 500 - 800 words. Anything shorter and you’re likely to be rejected by most article directories. Anything longer is still ok, but would mean your readers get bored.

But writing the article is really just one part of the traffic building campaign. You still need to publish your article to as many sites as possible.

There’s one service I currently use to publish and syndicate all my articles, which is Article Marketer. The service will syndicate all your articles to other article directories, and depending on your niche, this could mean 20 - 300 instant back links to your website. Some of your articles, if they are good, will end up in other people’s ezines and blogs.

    articlemarketer.jpg

With a free account at Article Marketer, you will only get distribution on the “partial list”, but an upgrade for a reasonable amount of money will give you unlimited article submissions to a list of more than 5,000 websites.

Each article you submit comes with reporting features so you can check exactly how many sites have published your articles.

    articlemarketer2.jpg

All your articles will be examined and approved by a human editor. If you don’t upgrade it takes up to two weeks, but upgrade authors can expect 24-hour approval of their articles. You can post as many articles as your want, using any name you want.

Some of you may have many websites and not comfortable with using your own name for some of the articles you publish, so this is the ideal service for you.

If you’re marketing a lot of content-based sites and you’re looking for long-term results, is the cure.

    Hi Gobala,

I’m thinking of using this service myself in the near future.

Could you elaborate on how effective you have fount it to be? How many articles have you submitted so far? Have any been syndicated in any good sites or ezines (not just spam sites etc)?

    Cheers,

    Yaro

    Hi Yaro,

Most of the sites syndicating from Article Marketer tend to use the Article Dashboard software or similar stuff, for the purpose of create their own niche directories and making some cash of Addsense.

Most of the sites about 80% wont have any significant amount of traffic, so I’d still submit to EzineArticles anyway. The remaining 20% would give you some traffic, but with one article it’s never enough.

On average an articles gets published about 300-500 times, and all those are backlinks as well…

Overall, unless your article is featured on the article sites of highlighted by an ezine publisher, traffic is OK on the first few days, and later reduces but you but still get some over time..

    Here’re a few tips …

You may want to register a new email address for this, but make sure it’s a valid one. But use it just for article submissions, because you will be receiving tons of email notifications for your article submissions and approval.

And another, when I signed up with AM, I already have an account at Ezine Articles. I found out that my articles aren’t getting into Ezine Articles, maybe because of the ID/email conflicts.

So what do you guys think would be a better strategy -

Hire someone to manually handle my campaign at EzineArticles.com or pay to use the service at ArticleMarkters?

I’m beginning to think that EzineArticles is the only site worth targeting with any efforts.

    Hey Yaro,
    good to see you here.

if i was exploring using article marketing, i’d probably submit a couple of articles by hand and use SEO elite to measure the results, then decide how to proceed.

on the warrior forum, there’s some feedback that the article marketer team can get back busy and lag behind on their tech support and customer service.

you might also want to know that automated submission does not work well with the bigger article directories.

so the key is test out both. get a 1 week or 1mth trial at AM, test and measure as with everything else in internet marketing.

Most people use EzineArticles.com as a springboard site to get listed for targeted keywords. By putting keyword-targeted articles (with the keyword in your title) you can get a top10 SE ranking in EzineArticles. This works if your site is not as authoritative as EA, which I guess applies to most websites.

The real traffic from EA comes when your article ranks for a certain keyword. People will click throgh to your website in the bio box.

Thats why sometimes even though you publish the article in your own blog first, the one at EA will outperfom you.

(Might be different in your case, Yaro)

This springboard technique doesnt work in ArticleMarketer perse, or any of their syndicated sites because most of those sites have lower rankings. But they do get you the backlinks.

    So I’ll use both.

What work better is.. Yaro, in your case, since you have an email ist, let your subscribers know about your latest article, and encourage them to use it on their blogs.

Sometimes, when you tell people to publish your article on their blogs, they actually do so..

Interesting Gobala - that’s what I thought concerning EzineArticles. Since my blog will outrank Ezine for most topics I am generally better off publishing the article myself if I want search results.

However where I would hope article syndication has value is when a popular ezine or blog or website republishes your article and you gain exposure. The same goes for back links to a lesser extent.

During my article marketing experiment at EzineArticles I never experienced syndication from any good sites or newsletters so I’m curious whether others are enjoying better results using a service like ArticleMarketers.

I’m pretty sure article marketing as a technique in general is not that powerful for either direct traffic or backlinks, perhaps money is better spent on link bait techniques.

    Hi Gobala, Yaro & Andrew,

It’s good to hear so much opinion here. I get benefited so much in between your conversation.

By the way, I am just thinking that maybe there something missing in this conversation. I may not know that is true or not here.

The missing link here is “What is your objective of using EA or AM?” Are you gaining free traffic to your website? building backlink? increase popularity? Probably we should disucss what is our objective first, then we will know which method is good. I always believe that there is no best methods but methods that work best for you. Test, test and test.

That is a good point Steven - although I am really looking for generally applicable advice, I think my main focus is on generating real people - targeted visitors to my newsletter sign-up, which might be on my blog or a specific landing page.

    Backlinks certainly don’t hurt either!

Getting original content is the only way to get good linkbacks and drive target visitors to you site.

Thats why I outsource all my article writing. Here is a good service http://www.e-businessadvantage.com

Great post! This is something I have been researching for a while now. I plan on writing a few articles to submit to some directories soon. I can’t wait to see the results.
