Wordpress 2.1 Ella Released
Wordpress 2.1 Ella was released two days ago, named after the legendary Ella Fitzgerald, and packed full of new features and bug fixes. Matt’s official post is here and the download link is here. The new features include Autosave for posts, a new tabbed editor to allow you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly, a completely redone visual editor including spell checking, new search engine privacy measures and extra page features such as drafts, private pages and the ability to use any page as your front page. The list certainly doesn’t stop there and I could literally go on for pages, but I won’t. A Comprehensive list is available on Matt’s post, linked above.
Developers will be delighted by the cleaner code and new abilities such as a Psuedo-cron functionality let’s you schedule events much like cron, a new WP_Error class which cleans up error reporting and handling and a javascript loader which makes it much easier for plugins to include rich functionality. Again, there’s tons more included, all listed on Matt’s post.
Also, looking towards the future, a new Wordpress release date (23rd April) has already been set and the team are promising much more regular updates and releases including all the things that you, as a user, want and can vote for on the Wordpress Ideas Board. Most people who have upgraded already recommend upgrading to take full advantage of the new features and since a couple of days have passed since the release most plugins will probably be working correctly with the new version so now seems like the perfect time for an upgrade.

"This is high-quality information..."

I think I\’ll wait before upgrading. This blog is too plugin-heavy now to just upgrade, some things may not work. I\’m looking forward to using the new theme editor on my other smaller / newer blogs though.
Good scoop Andrea
Not much difference for regular user IMO….but you will definitely get a good feel in running your blog with the new sleek interface and rearrange feature in the back-end..
in terms of compatiblity, like andrea said…most plugin should run fine now….regular update plugin should fix any issue on their next update..
regards,
Kevin
